Physical Training

Physical Training is an important component of the Academy. All candidates must be in good physical condition before entering the Academy. Candidates will be required to complete a personal history report and statement indicating freedom from physical disabilities, which would restrict physical training. Those candidates who are unable to perform typical firefighting tasks will not be accepted into the Academy.

Please read the Pre-Academy Physical Preparation information from Coach Chris Armstrong for more information regarding the Physical Agility Test and overall physical fitness.

Keep in mind, not only do you have the Physical Training Program within the Academy, but there are Academy classes that require a similar physical endurance (i.e. throwing ladders and pulling hose lines). The Physical Training Program consists of certain physical performance tests and a program of vigorous physical conditioning. Physical conditioning occurs a minimum of 1 hour per day, 3 days per week, for at least 6 months.
